Please follow the  step-by-step instructions below to configure Netscape Communicator's  Messenger e-mail client to check your Chesapeake.Net e-mail account.  Please note that not all versions of Netscape  Communicator have their setting information in precisely the same  place.  These instructions apply specifically to Netscape  Communicator 4.6 , but with slight alterations should remain  relatively applicable to other 4.x versions as well.  When in  doubt, refer to Communicator's online help to aid you in finding exact  setting locations.

Also not that the Standalone  Netscape Navigator 4.x Brower does not include the Messenger e-mail client.  You must download the full  Communicator Suite to use the Messenger Program.

  • Select Edit ,  then Preferences ,  from the Netscape Communicator Menu Bar as shown in the illustration  below.

Netscape Communicator Mail - Menu Bar

  • Once in the Preferences window, double click on the Mail  & Newsgroups menu item to expand the Mail  & Newsgroups menu group.
  • Click on the Identity menu item beneath Mail  & Newsgroups to get to the screen illustrated below.
    • You may enter  anything you wish into the Your  name field, though your full name is recommended.  This name  identifies the name of the person sending email using Netscape  Messenger, and will appear in the From field of any email sent  from this program.
    • Fill in your email  address as shown below, noting that your " username "  is your email account username as listed on your Chesapeake.Net Account Setup Information sheet.

Netscape Communicator Mail - Identity

  • Click on the Mail  Servers menu  item and fill in the Outgoing  mail (SMTP) server as shown below.
  • Note that Secure  Socket Layer (SSL) for outgoing messages should always be set to Never ,  and outgoing will mail will fail to send if it is set otherwise.
  • We recommend leaving  the Local  mail directory to its default option, which is typically already set, but you can  specify an alternate location if you would like to.

  • Now click on the Add... button to the right of the Incoming  Mail Servers window, which will give the following screen.  Enter the Server  Name and User  Name as they  are entered below, making sure that the Server  Type is set  to POP3 Server .
  • The other settings can  be set as per your own preferences, including those on the POP tab.  Hit the OK button when done.
